4 Gift Ideas that Won’t Clutter Your Home

4 Gift Ideas that Won’t Clutter Your Home

If you have kids, whether one or five, you know how quickly stuff can accumulate in your home. From birthdays and Christmas to the kid meals toys and the ‘just because’ gifts from the grandparents - there is always more toys coming into the house. And ultimately, those new toys get casted away to the bottom of the bin like all the rest when the “wow” factor wears off. This year I’m challenging myself (and you) to give gifts that will make a lasting impression. If grandparents are asking what to get the kids, feel free to share these experience gift ideas with them too.

  1. Tickets - Enjoy a movie night or take the kids to a live performance of their favorite TV characters.
  2. Memberships - An annual pass to a local zoo or museum provides year-round entertainment. Every year we ask the grandparents to renew a family membership to our zoo and aquarium. Because moms and dads need a little sanity on days when the weather is less than perfect.
  3. Subscriptions - Subscription services like art kits and magazines entertain and educate kids of all ages, And, they’ll love getting something in the mail addressed to them. I’ve been eyeing the adventure kits from Little Passports, magazine subscriptions like those from Cricket Media and creative play kits like the Koala Crate from KiwiCo.
  4. Lessons - Fuel their passions with gift certificates for music lessons, dance and art classes, sports leagues, or swim lessons.

And, these ideas could also apply to adult relatives and friends - or even your own wish list. Think movie and concert tickets, gym memberships, or an annual pass to a local attraction. It’s a holiday gift that keeps giving all year and is something families and couples can enjoy together.

Are you giving non-traditional gifts this year? I’d love to hear your ideas too!
